WWE announce 2020 draft with NXT set to be involved with RAW and SmackDown
WWE have announced a new draft will take place next month.
The 2020 draft will begin on October 9 with SmackDown and will conclude on October 12 with Monday Night RAW.
NXT has not been mentioned in the initial announcement, but Triple H stated back in August that they would be.
“That mindset has definitely changed,” Triple H said regarding superstars moving brands. “There are different protocols and procedures now around moving an NXT wrestler to the main roster, and you’ll see that in the upcoming draft later this year. You definitely have to think about the changes a lot more now.
“Now, wrestlers have the opportunity to wrap up their runs on RAW or SmackDown and move to a completely different brand with a different style in NXT. Maybe refresh, get a fresh coat of paint, or try something different. You can start over with a different character, and [moving to NXT] definitely gives them the ability to do that,” Triple H said.
Since the first tweet that WWE sent during Clash of Champions, WWE on FOX has tweeted about the draft and included NXT talent in it.
It’s been almost exactly a year since the brand extension saw FOX and USA Network execs make their respective picks. WWE went for a sports orientated feel on that occasion and with no general managers around, they may well do the same thing this time around.
WWE have got a few superstars who could do with going down to NXT for a fresh lick of paint and, conversely, they have open spots that some NXT talents could really help fill.
Sasha Banks and Bayley are rumoured to be split up during the draft, but face each other at Hell in a Cell. A prevailing theory is that Banks will win the Royal Rumble and target Bayley once more next year.
WWE has broken up a lot of tag teams recently, too, and superstars like the IIconics – Peyton Royce and Billie Kay – could see themselves on different brands.
