Why does Luis Suarez kiss his wrist when he celebrates a goal? Atletico Madrid star in action against Chelsea tonight
Luis Suarez has been a revelation since swapping Barcelona for Atletico Madrid and Atleti fans will be hoping to see his famous celebration on consistent basis this season.
Suarez called time on his prolific and trophy-laden Barca career last summer, moving to La Liga rivals Atletico.
He has since fired in the goals and helped Diego Simeone’s men to the top of the table.
He’ll face Chelsea in the Champions League last-16 with Blues fans remembering the Uruguayan well from his time at Liverpool.
Suarez will now doubt be desperate to get on the scoresheet and wheel away in celebration in his trademark fashion.
But what does his celebration mean?
Why does Luis Suarez kiss his wrist when he celebrates a goal?
With over 20 goals in each of his last eight seasons, you’ll likely have seen Suarez whip out his signature celebration moves.
This is actually a tribute to his family.
He has a tattoo on his wrist that reads ‘Delfina’, which is the name of Suarez’s eldest daughter.
First he kisses his ring finger as a nod to his wife Sofia, before kissing the tattoo.
And finally he completes the celebration by kissing three of his fingers to signify his wife and two kids.
