UFC fighter Julija Stoliarenko collapses twice at weigh-in as bout with Julia Avila called off
There were worrying scenes at the weigh-in ahead of Saturday evening’s UFC Fight Night as bantamweight Julija Stoliarenko collapsed twice.
Stoliarenko was trying to make weight for her bout with Julia Avila in Las Vegas on the Brunson vs Holland card.
She started to lose her balance while on the scale, staggered backwards and collapsed against the UFC backdrop.
The 27-year-old was then helped to a chair before remarkably being allowed to step onto the scales again.
Stoliarenko made 135.5 pounds, but then collapsed again with a member of the UFC security team catching her.
Video footage of the incident was captured and the worrying scenes posted on social media.
She then left on a stretcher and taken to hospital, according to ESPN.
Her fight with Julia Avila was subsequently cancelled due to fighter safety.
Stoliarenko (9-4-2), the former Invicta FC women’s bantamweight champion, was coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Yana Kunitskaya in her UFC debut, which snapped a five-fight winning streak.
Her opponent wrote on Instagram: “Unfortunately, my fight has been cancelled. My opponent fainted twice on the scales.
“I hope nothing but a speedy recovery for @julija.stoliarenko and prayers for her. Maybe we can meet up at a future date.
“But I will not be performing tomorrow night. As always, thank you to #pandaNation for the support. I love you all. May all the Julia’s in the world be unified and be healthy.”
