Romelu Lukaku shines at both ends, Ben Chilwell injured
England’s hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the Nations League were ended as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Belgium.
First-half goals from Youri Tielemans and Dries Mertens sealed the win for the world’s no.1 ranked side on a night where had all kinds of back luck.
Tielemans’ goal went in-off the post after taking a double deflection, while Mertens scored with a free-kick that probably shouldn’t have been given.
England came close to scoring on a number of occasions – Harry Kane could have had three. His best chance saw Red Devils striker Romelu Lukaku make a heroic goal line clearance.
Meanwhile, Chelsea fans will be sweating on the fitness of Ben Chilwell, who limped off with a back injury in the first half.
On the bright side, Jack Grealish showed his class once again as he caused the Belgians all sorts of problems, particularly in the second half where England pinned the hosts back.
