Paulo Costa has sent a chilling message to bitter rival Israel Adesanya before their highly-anticipated UFC middleweight title fight.

Never before in UFC title history have two undefeated fighters fought for a belt, yet the added animosity between the two men makes the main event at UFC 253 even more enthralling.

Both men defeated Yoel Romero in their previous fights, with Adesanya eking out a decision back in March which left even UFC president Dana White somewhat underwhelmed.

Costa, meanwhile, was involved in one of the best fights of 2019 as he went to the well and back in order to get the win and become the number one contender for the 185lbs title.

“I have just one question,” said Costa during an interview with Submission Radio. “Adesanya, why you freezing when you face Romero?

“You’re not a real champion, man. You don’t deserve. I will kill you.”

The relentless trash talking started last week on ESPN’s SportsCentre, when the undisputed king of the middleweights revealed how he planned to finish the fight.

“He’s dumb,” Adesanya said of Costa. “He’s dumb and he walks forward and he throws shots. That’s what makes it really exciting, and that’s what I’m looking forward to.

“I’m looking forward to this big, inflated ignoramus, running up on me, trying to throw shots as I keep moving and sticking him.

“The only people he ever beat that are worthy of anything as two guys that are ranked, that was Uriah Hall and Romero. Who else has he beat that’s ranked?

“Who else has he beat? I can list you four guys that I have, so you have to understand there’s levels to this.”
