The former ONE Championship and Bellator welterweight champion was stopped in the very first round of the glitzy affair at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Although Askren made a tidy sum from the bout, his pride will have surely taken a hit after being knocked out by the YouTuber.

However, considering he has a rather simple name to pronounce correctly, it will surely have irked the 36-year-old to hear legendary announcer Buffer get it so horribly wrong.

As he was introducing the MMA hero and Olympian, Buffer called him ‘Ben Askew’ and it caused a sizeable reaction on social media as well as drawing a confused look from the veteran.

However, speaking to TooFab at LAX, Buffer made sure he sent Askren an apology.

“Oh thanks for bringing that up,” he said. “I did — I really feel bad. Yeah, it happens.

“I’m hard on myself, believe me.”

When asked if he felt as though it was a contributing factor in the result, ‘The Voice of Boxing’ maintained it did not, but was sure to pass on his sincere apology.

“No. He’s a professional. That’s not going to throw him off. But yeah — I’m going to try to find a way to reach out to him personally and let him know I feel just as bad as he did, sure.”
