Chelsea have jumped up the table since Thomas Tuchel was appointed, but the German is fully aware there is plenty of work to do yet.

Tuchel is undefeated in his nine matches in charge, whilst the Blues have conceded just TWO goals since he took over in January.

Tuchel has had a good start to life as Chelsea boss but he will know there is plenty of work to do yet

The 47-year-old secured his biggest win last week as he outwitted Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in an impressive 1-0 victory to put his side in control of their Champions League last-16 tie.

However, the Blues failed to follow up that up with another victory, fighting out a goalless stalemate with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

There is no question that Chelsea have improved since Tuchel replaced Lampard in January, but his side’s lack of killer instinct in front of goal will be a massive cause for concern.

Even though they spent in excess of £200million on new talent in the summer – including big-money on the arrivals of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech – the new look front line are failing to find the net and Chelsea are struggling to win games as a result.

Unsurprisingly, some huge names have been linked with a move to the west London club this summer despite their big summer spend in the last, with reports suggesting Roman Abramovich still has as much cash to spend as ever despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Some big departures from Stamford Bridge have also been mooted, so how could Chelsea look next season if the reports of the transfer activity are true? talkSPORT.com has taken a look…

Arrivals

Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund)

The Blues’ pursuit of the electric Borussia Dortmund striker has reportedly been sanctioned by Abramovich as the Blues look to steal a march on their Premier League rivals.

Speculation over the 20-year-old’s future was reignited earlier this month after another exceptional Champions League display for Borussia Dortmund, followed up by some stunning Bundesliga goals.

His agent Mino Raiola recently revealed four clubs in England would be able to sign the Norwegian star – and you would expect Chelsea to be one of them.

In fact, reports from German newspaper Bild suggest mega-rich owner Abramovich, who spent more than £200m last summer, has given the green light for a big-money bid.

Manchester United and Man City have also been linked with Haaland, along with every big club across Europe.

Haaland’s contact contains a release clause of £65m which becomes valid from June 2022, while it is thought Dortmund would want £150m to sell him before that.

David Alaba (Bayern Munich)

The 28-year-old has been stalling on signing a new contract with the German giants, with reports suggesting he rejected a £15m-a-year offer to remain with the Bundesliga club last summer.

The Austria international was keen to become one of the top earners in Bavaria – matching the salaries of Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski – but Bayern chiefs were reluctant to meet his salary demands and he has now officially announced he is leaving to put Chelsea and Man United on alert.

Reports have suggested that Real Madrid remain the frontrunners to sign the centre-back, who has made over 400 appearances and won 26 honours, including nine Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2013 and 2020.

United and Chelsea, however, could yet lure the defender to the Premier League as both clubs look to bolster their defensive options.

Departures

Tammy Abraham

Abraham is reportedly at the top of West Ham’s shortlist of targets as the Hammers look ahead to bolster their attack in the summer.

The 23-year-old England international was left out of Tuchel’s squad for the weekend’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United, putting the spotlight on his future at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham have other back-up options, though, with Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah and Brentford’s in-form striker Ivan Toney also on their list, according to The Telegraph.

It is believed Abraham will not sign an extension to his deal at Chelsea if the club continue to be linked with Haaland.

Kurt Zouma

The arrival of Tuchel has been bad news for the Frenchman.

After making his name as one of Lampard’s most important players, the Frenchman has now effectively become the fifth-choice centre-back, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen all ahead of him.

At 26, the Frenchman’s prime years are in front of him and he would not be short of any takers.

Everton have shown interest in the past having once had him on loan, while many top European clubs would also be willing to pay a pretty penny for his services.

Emerson Palmieri

With Marcos Alonso back in the fold at Chelsea and competing with Ben Chilwell for the left-back spot, Emerson’s future at the club looks ominous.

The Italy international has been linked with a switch to Inter in the past and he could well be on the chopping block this summer.

He is still only 26 and the Blues could sell him for in excess of £20m given he has his prime years ahead of him.
