Khamzat Chimaev joked people will now need to start comparing him to Mike Tyson following his devastating knockout.

Ahead of his 17-second win against Gerald Meerschaert, Chimaev was constantly compared to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov owing to his grappling game on show in his first two UFC fights.

“Now they have to say this is like Mike Tyson,” he told ESPN after his third successive UFC victory. “I’ll just do my hard work, take my wins, go home and then start again.”

Chimaev burst onto the scene in debut with the promotion in July, at middleweight against John Phillips in Abu Dhabi.

Ten days later, he was back in the octagon to take on Rhys McKee at his natural weight of 170lbs to make UFC history with the quickest turnaround between fights.

And in Las Vegas at the weekend he secured his third win in as many months with a stunning one-punch KO which left Meerschaert prone on the floor.

Chimaev said after his win at the UFC Vegas 11 post-fight press conference. “I can knock out people. Smash the people. Everything. I have everything.”

He’s not afraid to fight anyone either. “I am ready for everybody,” Chimaev added.

“Like I said to [UFC president Dana White], if you give me Demian Maia I am ready for him. If they give me Brock Lesnar, I am ready for him also.”

He also warned welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, working in the television studio on the night: “I’m coming.”

Dana White believes he has a special talent on his hands.

“I’ve been in this game my whole life, I’ve never seen anything like him,” he said afterwards.

“He’s special, he’s different and he wants to fight again. I’ve never been in a position where I’m like, ‘Who’s next? How do we get him a fight? How do we get him over here, how do we get him over there? How do we do this, how do we do that?’

“It’s fun and I like it and I think when you’re a fight fan a guy like this is who you love to watch and follow and hate and whatever it might be.

“This guy is one of the most special fighters I’ve ever seen; if not the most special guy that I’ve ever come across.”
