HMRC National Minimum Wage investigations shoot up – most affected part of the UK revealed | Personal Finance | Finance
Pinsent Masons’ research found that National Minimum Wage (NMW) investigations have occurred most frequently in Aberdeen, with 10.2 being conducted per 100,000 population in 2019.
Following this, Blackburn came second (9.8), followed by Birmingham (9.6), Belfast (9.1) and Leicester (nine).
Overall, the number of NMW investigations jumped to 3,561 last year, up from 2,807 in 2018/19.
Pinsent Mason detailed that HMRC usually uses its civil investigation powers to ensure that workers are repaid what is owed to them but in some cases, more extreme measures are needed.
