Sam Curran’s heroics with the bat were not enough as India clinched a 2-1 series win with a thrilling victory over England on Sunday.

An incredible series decider ended in a seven-run victory for India as Curran fell just short of a miracle.

Chasing a decent yet reachable score of 329, England’s top order let them down as Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow were dismissed cheaply before Ben Stokes went for 35.

When Dawid Malan was out for 50, it seemed like England, who still needed 162 with four wickets in hand, were down and out.

It was only thanks to No. 8 batsman Curran, and some awful catching from India, that the match went to the wire, as his brilliant 95 not-out made the hosts sweat.

Backed up by Adil Rashid and then Mark Wood, Curran took the run chase right down to the final over with some sensational hitting after being dropped TWICE by India.

It was the finale that a thrilling ODI series deserved – but ultimately it was won by the Indian bowlers as Curran failed to get 14 from the last over.

It gives the hosts victory across all three formats following their Test and T20 triumphs – but only just.
