Capital One Venture Doubles Sign-Up Bonus

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card has added a layer to its 50,000-mile sign-up bonus. On top is a limited-time 50,000-mile bonus that can give new cardholders 100,000 bonus miles in the first year.
Miles can be redeemed for travel anytime, or for eligible restaurant delivery, takeout and streaming service purchases through December 31, 2020.
The 100,000-mile bonus is unmatched by similar general travel rewards cards but requires steep spending to earn it.
What Is the Offer?
You can receive up to 100,000 miles when you spend $20,000 on your Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card within 12 months of signing up for it. The bonus is split into two tiers based on card spending:
- When you spend $3,000 on the card within three months of opening it, you will earn 50,000 miles.
- You’ll need to spend $20,000 on the card within the first year to earn 50,000 more miles.
Is the Offer Worthwhile?
Capital One’s 100,000-mile bonus is worth about $1,000. That’s much more value than the card’s $95 annual fee, which doesn’t apply until the second year.
This offer is a good deal if you plan to spend $20,000 on the card in the first year and if you don’t plan to carry a balance.
Comparing Sign-Up Bonuses
A 100,000-point welcome offer is generous for a travel credit card. Compare this card with others that have similar sign-up bonuses, such as:
- Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. You’ll earn 80,000 bonus points – worth $1,000 in travel rewards – when you spend $4,000 within three months of opening an account. The card charges a $95 annual fee.
- United Club Infinite Card. New cardholders will earn 100,000 bonus miles after spending $5,000 on the card in the first three months. But be prepared to pay a hefty $525 annual fee.
Should You Claim the Offer?
The spending requirement is large for this offer – but so is the bonus. Sign-up bonuses of this size are rare for a versatile credit card like the Capital One Venture Rewards Card.
If you’re confident that you can meet the spending requirement for this bonus and that you can avoid carrying a balance, this card could be a good choice.
