Arsenal great Perry Groves has publicly told the club to stump up huge money if necessary to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the club.

The Gunners’ prolific striker scored twice on Saturday as they came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

However, his future at the Emirates is in doubt as he’s now into the final year of his contract, meaning that the current transfer window will realistically be Arsenal’s last chance to receive any money through his sale.

Manager Mikel Arteta still holds hope that Aubameyang, 31, will sign a new deal and outlined his plans to ‘build the squad around him’ immediately after the win over Chelsea.

Groves reacted by saying on talkSPORT’s Final Word: “I don’t care, as an Arsenal fan, and I know we’re in difficult financial times.

“If they said, ‘Aubameyang’s on £400,000 a week, £500,000 a week,’ it wouldn’t bother me at all because some players warrant it.

“Some players warrant it and he does because he delivers.

“Fans get the hump with players who are on a lot of money and don’t deliver and don’t look like they care.

“And someone should tell him that the FA Cup has got a base!”

The last sentence is seemingly a reference to Aubameyang hilariously dropping the trophy on Saturday.

Groves added regarding the financial situation: “The thing that’s happened now is winning the FA Cup gives the belief to that group of players that the manager knows what he’s talking about. They’ll buy into him quicker.

“And going to the board and saying to Mr Kronke, ‘Right, I’ve had half a season here, I’ve changed the culture because the culture was too lackadaisical, everybody was too comfotable.’

“Saying, ‘I want five or six out, which is gonna be difficult, but you’ve gotta back me now, you’ve gotta back me.’

“And if we hadn’t have won yesterday, without the money in the Europa League, that could’ve affected us for the next three to five seasons.”
