Andy Ruiz Jr shows off left hook that devastated Anthony Joshua as he trains for 2021 comeback with first opponent set to be Chris Arreola
Andy Ruiz Jr is now back in training with new coach Eddy Reynoso as he prepares to fight again in 2021.
The Mexican-American became Mexico’s first heavyweight champion when he knocked out Anthony Joshua in June 2019, but was significantly heavier and comfortably outboxed in the rematch six months later.
Ruiz Jr has not fought since the defeat to the Brit.
He decided to switch trainers in mid-2020, splitting from Manny Robles to link up with Canelo Alvarez’s coach Reynoso.
The 31-year-old started training with his new mentor for a brief period late last year as it looked as though he could return to the ring towards the end of 2020.
However, these plans were pushed back and so he took some more time off and is now finally back in the gym again.
It was reported last year that Ruiz Jr had agreed terms to return against Chris Arreola.
Now, Mike Coppinger has confirmed that this bout is still set to be Ruiz Jr’s next and will take place this spring.
Meanwhile, Deontay Wilder has also been linked with a spring fight, which would be his first since the rematch defeat to Tyson Fury.
Should both Ruiz Jr and Wilder get back to winning ways, many fans hope they will be matched together in a massive heavyweight clash later this year.
